Do they know more Black queers have been born since then? Do they know that people are pretty chill with studs’ masculinity in Black spaces and it’s mostly a casual thing? Do they know that the whole “Black people are homophobic” stereotype is way more complicated and nuanced than they think, and way less accurate than they assume (and also their fault because widespread homophobia is some colonizer bullshit)?
Do they know intersectionality is an internal experience as well as an external one? Do they know femmes can have short hair and mascs can have long hair without it being gnc because that’s not how Black genders are perceived? Do they know what a gnc Black woman really looks like, or do they just assume all Black women are a little masculine? Do they know visibly queer Black people in the US have to worry about what will happen and how they’ll be perceived when they get pulled over? Do they know my Blackness is a huge part of both my gender and sexuality, and stud was the main term I used for both for a long time?
Do they know how many Black queers feel excluded from the queer community because white queers don’t care to learn? Do they know how many times we’ve tried to tell them about our cultures and identities just to be ignored? Do they know they’ve stolen almost all of their “gay slang” from Black people and call it ghetto when we do it but cool and trendy when they do it? Do they know we all used butch once, but then they decided Black people couldn’t anymore, then they tried to take stud from us too? Do they care that they have repeatedly tried to gentrify us out of our own language? Do they know not all studs are ok with being grouped in with butches, and some even resent it because butches are always the default and no one talks about studs?
Do they know anything about us?

hey white people really don’t need to say in the tags that they’re white. you guys can just learn from it and spread it without saying anything. I intentionally added that bit telling you you can rb so you don’t have to say you’re white or ask permission or whatever you’re trying to do with that. It’s wildly unnecessary at best and an attempt to look good/get “good Black ally” points at worst, and we (Black people) can’t easily tell which one it is through the Internet, so it’s offputting and annoying

Three Durham police officers committed professional misconduct when they showed “pro-police bias,” conducting an inadequate investigation of the incident that led to the conviction of an off-duty Toronto constable for assaulting Dafonte Miller in 2016, according to a disciplinary tribunal ruling.
Citing the serious injuries sustained by then-19-year-old Miller, retired Ontario Provincial Police Supt. Greg Walton, who oversaw the disciplinary proceedings, said in a ruling dated June 26 that the officers ignored clear signs that a thorough investigation was warranted.
“The inequity in injuries and one-sided result of the altercation alone begged for questions to be asked,” Walton said.
“I am convinced that the main reason those inquiries did not occur is because of the involvement and role of an off-duty officer.” […]
I realize that not everyone remembers this, or was even aware of it in the first place, but I was involved with the protests that occurred after this happened in 2016 so I want to provide some context for the hate crime that this article is referring to.
In 2016, an off duty white toronto police officer (michael theriault) and his brother (christian theriault) beat a 19 year old black man named dafonte miller with a pipe. they injured him badly enough to blind him in one eye. pictures of his injuries circulated, and I won’t be showing them here, but from the pictures it was evident that they very nearly killed him.

the toronto police didn’t report the assault to the police watchdog (which they are required to do). it took months for the theriaults to be charged for their actions.
christian theriault was found not guilty. michael theriault was sentenced to just nine months in prison. again, for beating a black man with a pipe until he went blind in one eye.
that is what this is about, and that is why we are outraged.
Most Ontario landlords will be able to increase rent by up to 2.5 per cent next year.
Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Steve Clark says the rent increase guideline for 2024 is set at the same rate as for this year, and he notes that it is below the average inflation rate of 5.9 per cent.
The cap does not apply to rental units first occupied after Nov. 15, 2018.
Landlords can also apply to the Landlord and Tenant Board for increases above 2.5 per cent.
